Active Isolated Stretching
If you follow the theory the cream will rise to the top and apply that to the plethora of stretch techniques then the cream of the crop is active isolated stretching.
In the increasingly competitive world sports arena more athletes are taking up active isolated stretching as it has proven safe and effective. Elite performers have used it to reach their peaks and extend their careers. Michael Johnson set his amazing 200m world record of 19.32 seconds after forty minutes of active isolated stretching. Enough said. But if you want more it has also been used extensively by Rudolph Nureyev, Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan and plenty of others. The USA has managed to keep it relatively secret up to this point, but the cat's out of the bag now.
More than just a peak performance tool, it is also one of the most remedial forms of stretching I have personally come across. I have done several years of ashtanga yoga and pilates and although both great, I feel that active isolated stretching is the icing on the cake. It is only since incorporating AIS that I have truely become headache free and I would heartily recommend it to anyone for exercise therapy.
