Tension Myositis Syndrome
Ok, confession time. Having been through months of myofascial release therapy and then learning about Active Isolate Stretching I was pain-free and enjoying life. I then went clubbing with some friends and at the end of the night I got a terrible, crippling headache. I couldn't believe it. It was the same all-over chronic headache I had had four years ago. How was this possible, I was all aligned and my muscles and fascia were smooth, I was as close to biomechanically perfect as possible.
To cut a long story short I believe I had TMS, or tension myositis syndrome, and now my physical anguish is over. TMS recognises that the mind can control the flow of blood to an area, creating hypoxemia in certain places, which causes real pain. Why the mind would do this is different for every single person, but generally there is a conflict between the different parts of your mind. The psycho-physiology of TMS is very well described in this video by Dr Schubiner. If you've had pain complaints for a long time then why not take my TMS test?
